Created by The Health Education Center, in partnership with the Connecticut AHEC Network, the Collegiate Health Service Corps (CHSC) program offers service-learning opportunities to undergraduates interested in pursuing health careers. Through hands-on training and service, college students improve their skills and knowledge to provide health programs in medically underserved or economically disadvantaged communities. Successful CHSC members complete a minimum of 20 hours of service and have an increased interest in returning to their communities as primary health providers upon graduation. The Health Education Center works closely with Health360 (Waterbury), Central CT AHEC (Hartford), and Southwestern AHEC (Shelton) to administer the CHSC program curriculum statewide across campuses.

 Program Goals

  • Strengthen bridges between underserved or at-risk populations and mainstream health systems, social organizations, and health institutions.
  • Provide service-learning opportunities to offer health promotion, disease prevention education and interactive training to residents.
